Wait … rather than give you some stuffy, third person bio – how about I just introduce myself in plain English?  Keep reading to learn more about my professional background.

If you want to truly know who I am though, watch the video on the home page.  I talk about my own challenges and family struggles to share why helping people (and teens) is so important to me.

I’m Dr. Robin Lavitch. Surpass Your Goals is the name of my coaching business and also this website. Let me start by explaining the letters after my name, PhD refers to a Doctor of Philosophy in human behavior.  This specialization incorporates an in-depth understanding of psychology and social dynamics.  MA refers to my Master’s degree in developmental psychology. PCC indicates that I have a certification as a professional coach through the International Coach Federation. That means I’m qualified to be a coach … believe it or not some coaches have not been trained or certified, they just use the title of coach. I also hold a CWPC credential, which represents a Certified Wellness Program Coordinator. I am also certified in several specialty tools for coaching: LEGO Serious Play®, GALLUP Strengths Finder®, Change Works®,  Myers-Briggs, DISC, and many, many more. Yes, I love learning!  The more tools, the more avenues to help people!

My strong education served as a foundation for both my personal development as someone who believes in overcoming obstacles and as a platform to drive a very diverse career. I’ve been a university professor, counselor for foster kids, and marketing director. These roles gave me a great wealth of expertise to succeed as a business coach and personal coach. If you would like to learn more about those roles, you can review my LinkedIn Profile. In May of 2006, I launched Surpass Your Goals, and it’s been a great 15+ year journey of growth and helping clients triumph.

I confess, all these psychology degrees sometimes makes potential clients a little nervous. In fact, you might be wondering right now “If I hire Robin as my personal coach, is she going to analyze me?” The answer is: Yes, of course, I am! But not in the “tell me about your childhood way.” There is no comfy couch to lay on (sorry) and no psychoanalysis. That is reserved for counseling, and I am not licensed to offer therapy.  I will analyze your talents, strengths, and gifts as a means of laying a foundation for your growth plan.  I believe your journey is specific to who you are.  You are a unique individual and my job is to uncover that so you can use that as your greatest asset.

Seize Opportunities

Instead, I use a well-honed blend of psychological principles and business strategies that allow me to get to know you, help you to remove self-imposed obstacles, and guide you to confidently seize opportunities. According to my GALLUP Strengths Finder® Profile, Individualization, Relator and Responsibility are my top strengths. This means that I am naturally talented at emphasizing the unique traits of others, nurturing others’ needs to thrive, and keeping promises. My combined strengths and experience provide powerful outcomes for my clients. Many report that they have renewed passions and are able to travel, turn work off, and truly rest. Additionally, clients have doubled, tripled, and even quadrupled revenues because they feel confident and capable of managing themselves, their staff, and their businesses.

Bottom line, I find that coaching works best when we keep it focused, respectful, and sprinkled with the occasional bit of non-judgmental sarcasm. I am genuine and straightforward but never mean. Here’s how it works – I bring my skills, knowledge, and systems to the table, and you bring the courage to grow and accept responsibility for proactively moving towards your goals. There is no quick fix or magic pill. I explain that in more detail on my coaching page.

“Psychologists have the most training of any profession in understanding human motivation, behavior, learning and change, and if they’ve done clinical work, they have a depth of one-on-one experience far greater than that of people who aren’t mental health professionals. Coaching is actually a great fit with what most of us already do.” -Dr. Jeffrey E. Auberbach

By the way, I was trained by Dr. Auberbach at the College of Executive Coaching in 2006.
